A week to recognize the contributions of the School Counselling Profession to the personal, social, educational and career development, and the mental health and wellbeing, of all students in Canada.
The Event: School Counsellors are invited to join in the celebration of Canadian School Counselling Week, Feb. 1-5, 2016. This special recognition week has been organized by the School Counsellors Chapter of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA) www.ccpa-accp.ca. Canadian School Counselling Week is part of a North American focus on the school counselling profession.
The Goal: The goal of Canadian School Counselling Week is to increase the public’s awareness of the scope of programs and services that characterize the school counselling profession in Canada within the twenty-first century and beyond. This special week highlights the role school counsellors play in supporting student success. It also builds a sense of national identity within the school counselling profession.
Individual professionals have many creative ideas to raise public awareness of the ways in which school counsellors foster student growth with respect to their personal, social, educational and career development. Various templates of promotional materials are available from the CCPA School Counsellors Chapter’s website. Resources may be downloaded by school counsellors to advertise and organize plans for Canadian School Counselling Week. Resources include a press release and proclamation, sample posters, certificates and suggested activities. The School Counsellors Chapter has developed a special poster for the event entitled, “Celebrate Canadian School Counselling Week.” This poster may be downloaded from the website or printed copies may be ordered. Information about the printing companies that print and ship posters in Canada is also available. For more information about the above resources, please access the School Counsellors Chapter website: https://www.ccpa-accp.ca/chapters/school-counsellors/.
CCPA celebrated its fiftieth anniversary in 2015. School guidance counsellors were among the groups that initiated the Canadian Guidance and Counselling Association (CGCA) in 1965, subsequently renamed the Canadian Counselling Association (CCA), and presently known as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA).
On behalf of the CCPA School Counsellors Chapter, we look forward to school counsellors in Canada celebrating Canadian School Counselling Week with their school communities in February. If you require further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
